The Bubba Gump restaurant in Times Square – a New York City Travel Tip from Michael

What is the Bubba Gump restaurant?

If you’ve seen the movie Forrest Gump, you know that Bubba was Forrest’s best friend. Bubba has thousands of recipes for cooking shrimp. He says in the film: “Anyway, like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan-fried, deep-fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that’s about it. “

So, do not be surprised to learn that the Bubba Gump restaurant prepares several recipes with shrimp in it! : D
The menu is similar to what Bubba says in the film, as it proposes many dishes with shrimps.

If you don’t like seafood, do not worry; there’s more to eat. They prepare burgers, pasta…
In fact, my daughter does not like shrimp, and she loved her meal.
There is a children’s menu and a gluten free menu.

What is there to eat?

There are many dishes and all have original names.< We started with cocktails ($ 10- $ 15). If you order a cocktail, you can keep the glass as a souvenir 😉 I had the Lt. Dan’s Drunken Shrimp. It is a dish with shrimp cooked with hot sausage, mashed potatoes, and bourbon sauce. Delicious! A little spicy but yummy.

My daughter ordered a Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich, my son and my wife ordered the Mama Blue’s Southern Charmed Fried Shrimp, breaded shrimp with a special sauce.
The dishes are well portioned, so we did not have dessert.

How is the restaurant?

The restaurant is huge, with hundreds of tables. The decor is very original, with many references from the movie.
The atmosphere is very nice, there are many tourists, families and young people.

How is the service at Bubba Gump?

Nothing bad to say. The room is huge, and you think that you’ll wait forever before eating.
The truth is that there are dozens of waiters who are very attending. The service is quick enough.
There are also animations, waiters will ask you facts about the film, and give you small present if you have the correct answer.

What you need to know before going to Bubba Gump

We arrived at the restaurant about 6.00pm and there were already many people. I recommend not to arrive later than 6.00pm and avoid waiting on the street 😉

My suggestions:
– To order a cocktail to take your glass as souvenir,
– Before going to New York, visit the restaurant’s website and click on the “TRIVIA” section. It is a questionnaire about the film, in the end you can take a picture or print your result, and the waiter will give you a Bubba Gump sticker 😉

How much does it cost to eat at Bubba Gump?

In my opinion, it was a bit pricey. Among the 4 of us, with cocktails and the main course, we spent $116.
But it is a restaurant where you should go at least once with your family!
