If you want to enjoy Manhattan skyline from a different view other than Brooklyn Heights, I recommend visiting the Gantry Plaza State Park in Queens.
You’ll discover former docks restored in waterfront promenade, picnic tables and benches designed to enjoy the magnificent view Manhattan is offering especially on the Empire State, the Chrysler Building and the UN building.

What’s the history of Gantry Plaza State Park?

In the past, Long Island City was a very bleak and industrial area, located on the border of the East River. Nowadays, no boats come to unload their merchandise, but you can still notice the restored car float transfer bridge used in industrial docks.
Nowadays, they are classified landmarks.

What can you do at Gantry Plaza State Park?

We can simply enjoy a stroll. In other words, it’s an idyllic place.
In addition, it’s a great place to take beautiful photos. I really enjoy myself taking pictures with visiting friends and family 🙂

Take a seat on the benches to enjoy the fantastic Manhattan skyline!


If you keep on walking along the river, you’ll find the enormous Pepsi sign!


Can you imagine yourself having a picnic here?


Children love this place too, think about it if you’re travelling with your kids to NYC.

And well, there’s even a designated dog park!

When to visit the park?

The park is open all year long, from dawn to 10 pm. The best you can do is to come on a sunny day.

Or you can visit the park at night where you can see the beautiful skyline lights.

What can you see from Gantry Plaza State Park?

We can various bridges connecting Manhattan to Queens and Brooklyn.

You can also see a major part of Manhattan’s East coast with the UN (as seen in picture), the Chrysler Building, and the Empire State Building.

Across from Gantry State Park, there’s the Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island.

If you look towards the South of Manhattan, you can see the One World Trade Center.

Where is Gantry Plaza State Park located?

It’s located in the borough of Queens in Long Island City.
It’s actually at this exact location that you can see the restored waterfront with the famous sign “LONG ISLAND” written in big letters.

Conclusion

If you want to leave Manhattan for a quiet place, you have to go to Gantry State Park. It is ideally located to enjoy the Manhattan’s Skyline, at only 15 minutes by metro (line 7, Vernon Blvd) from Times Square. You can also take the NYC Ferry from Manhattan.
You’ll be close to Casa Enrique to have an authentic Mexican diner!
