Kitano Hotel: a serene and relaxing Japanese styled hotel in New York

You just found a cheap flight to NY, and now you’re looking for a hotel? I’m about to tell you about a hotel that I really liked during one of my trips to NY.
Before getting started, bear in mind that it’s the only Japanese-owned hotel in New York. It blends traditional Asian hospitality and American convenience.
The hotel managers remind you the 4th benefits of Kitano Hotel: cleanliness, security, tranquility and high quality service.
I hope my description about the Kitano Hotel will makes you want to stay there.

How are the rooms?

This hotel has 145 rooms and suites very comfy, with flat screen TV… and 2 restaurants.
The comfort and the services are the same for each room. What changes is just the size of the rooms. The more you pay, the bigger you get.

The windows are sound-proof. Our room was overlooking Park Avenue, and if you shut the windows, you can barely hear the noise from the street. It is really quiet.
The corridors are covered with carpet; it helps even more to absorb any noise. The walls between the rooms are thick enough you can’t hear your neighbors.

The Hotel Kitano has multiple suites that offer better service than common rooms: Jacuzzi, terrace, Japanese bathtub…
Each room and suite has its own decoration and design.
The rooms feature a desk, flat screen TV, coffee maker and a teapot.
Bed is comfy and the A/C works perfectly.

In almost every room there are marble bathrooms with bathtub.
The provided towels have the name of the hotel on it, you will also find robes, slippers, and toiletries from the company “Gilchrist & Soames”. Very fancy!

The hotel’s restaurant, the Hakubai, proposes Japanese gastronomic food for breakfast and dinner. You can also taste typical American and European meals for breakfast and have dinner at the Garden Safe.

At night, the bar-lounge offers a great variety of cocktails with very rare whisky, champagne and sake.

Curious facts about the Hotel Kitano

Do you want to have the same room Maria Sharapova has? Yes, the Russian tennis player. When she visits NYC, she always stays at the Kitano, in the same room: The Townhouse Suite.
It has a King size bed, a huge bathroom and a large living room.
If you don’t book this room, you may see the handsome tennis player in the hotel, who knows?

Another Kitano’s little secret: the Tatami Suite
Like in Japan, you have to take off your shoes to get in and everything is quite small: the table, the futon bed, and the tub with water stream… it has everything you need either you are a tourist or a Japanese businessman who wants to feel like home.

On the top floor of the hotel, there’s a large room for special events with a nice rooftop overlooking the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. It will be a perfect place to celebrate a wedding!

How is the service?

Like in Japan, the service is just perfect. The managers are nice, and very professional. Most of the employees at the hotel are from Japan.
There is a room service 24/7.
The New York Times waits for you every morning at your door.
Before getting surprised if you stay at the Hotel; every night an employee comes to your room to turn on the night stand lights, and prepare your bed… So don’t blame your partner for leaving the lights on 😉

How’s the restaurant for breakfast?

If you want to have your breakfast at the Kitano Hotel, you can taste a typical Japanese one with Salmon, rice and sushi…

And like any other hotel, you will find bacon, sausages, eggs, bread, pancakes, fruits… a complete breakfast to be ready for your long journey in NY.

Jazz at Kitano

On the first floor, the Jazz at Kitano is a calm place to have an appetizer or listen to jazz music.

How much does it cost to stay at Kitano Hotel?

The rooms cost around $200 per night. Then, it depends on your dates and on the season.
