Lobster tasting at Chelsea Market (a great tip from Diane)

Lobster tasting at Chelsea Market

This new tip from the New York City Travel Tips community was given from Diane who had the chance to taste some lobsters at Chelsea Market.
In this cute temple of gourmet food called Chelsea Market (a must see in New York just like the High Line located right above), you’ll find a number of small shops and some delicious little restaurants.
During her last trip in New York, Diane tried the Lobster Place and of course tasted some yummy lobsters.
I ‘ll let her do the talking.
I wanted to thank her for this review completed with great photos.

Meanwhile, let me remind you that you can also share your great tips as well, I have written an article about it.

What type of cuisine is served at Lobster Place?

The Lobster Place is one of the best places to try lobsters, and also the cheapest one!
It’s designed as a small seafood store with a choice of: sushi, lobsters, oysters and a variety of fishes.

How’s the ambiance and decor?

Right away, when entering Chelsea Market you discover a temple of small gourmet food stores where you have the option of tasting a little bit of everything (we actually tried everything since we are tourists who enjoy great food!!).
The Lobster Place is designed with small stand stalls where each of them are selling their specialties. But what we are mostly interested in is located in the far left side of the store: lobsters freshly brought from Maine, yum!
It’s almost impossible to seat in since it’s a store and not a restaurant. Although, a big wooden table with few seat is available for the lucky ones who can score a spot!!
We pleasantly sat down in Chelsea Market’s hallway, New York style!!

How’s the service at Lobster Place?

Now I have to admit that the food was very pleasant but ouch! You are served with plastic cutlery, plate and tray!! You understand that you can’t by too fussy, it’s not a fancy place, here, you simply eat with your hands!!
Small napkins are provided with hand wipes, very handy if you use butter and lemon on your lobster 😉

What are the prices?

Different sizes are available, we ordered the small lobsters (American version small): 1 lbs at $21 and 1½ lbs at $24 each. Needless to say, it’s an excellent deal!!!
Some beverages are offered, but avoid their beers. Yuck!

Why you ABSOLUTELY have to go?

Wait! You’re not convinced yet?
Imagine yourself: after walking long hours in the streets of Manhattan including the High Line located nearby, whether it’s cold or hot and it’s 1 or 2 pm (or even 4 pm), you’re hungry and it has to be fast, healthy, affordable and most importantly very TASTY!
The wait is quite short, just a few minutes since it’s cooked 3-4 minutes in a steam oven!
I tested the place during lunch and dinner but preferred the noon service. There’s a better vibe and in the evening most stores close early and after 9:30/10 pm the aisles of Chelsea Market are deserted.
Meanwhile, we took some funny photos 🙂
