Rooftop bars have become increasingly popular in New York for the past ten years. Today there must be a hundred of them all over the city.
Some of my favorites are 230 Fifth Rooftop and the Press Lounge. Now, if you are staying or hanging out on the Lower East Side, I recommend Mr. Purple. You can hang out both inside and outside with views to the south, especially from the One World Trade Center.
How is the Mr. Purple rooftop?
In the heart of the Lower East Side neighborhood is the Hotel Indigo and precisely on its 15th floor is the Mr. Purple rooftop bar.
Opened in November 2015, this bar consists of an interior room with tables and chairs, like a traditional bar.
Next, you will find a small terrace with tables for lunch or dinner, but mostly a second much larger terrace that includes a pool.
The pool is quite pleasant during the day,
as well as at night. In addition, it offers stunning views of the surroundings, especially on SoHo, the Empire State Building, and all of Midtown.
On the other side of the terrace, the view is remarkably spectacular on the One World Trade Center.
What can you eat and drink at Mr. Purple?
Like in almost all the bars in New York, you can drink wine, beers, and cocktails.
They follow the current trend that wants every bar to have its own cocktail menu. Anyway, there are all kinds of cocktails.
Concerning prices, they are similar to what you will find on other rooftops in New York City:
– 7 to 9 dollars for a beer
– 20 dollars for a cocktail
– 13 to 20 dollars for a glass of wine.
Finally, you can order small plates like fries, fries with guacamole, dishes like tuna tartare, Caesar salad, poke bowl, Mr. Purple Burger…
Dishes range from $13 to $25.
If you want to have brunch or dinner, I advise you to book on their website.
I must admit that I came here after dinner, so I didn’t try the food. But yes, their cocktails are good! It is much like everywhere in NY 🙂 The trick is to choose it right, as I find the most challenging when bars make their specialties. I usually select the main alcohol and read the description carefully to make sure that I will like it 🙂 .

As I said, it’s on the Lower East Side. It is on the lovely Orchard Street, so typical of the neighborhood.

Can you go to Mr. Purple with minors?
If you come during the day, yes, they will usually let you in. It would be before 7 pm.
Since it opens at 11 am on weekends, you can come in at lunchtime for brunch or in the afternoon for a drink.
And during the week, it will be between 4 pm and 7 pm.
Can we swim in the pool?
The pool is open during the summer from late May to early June (often from Memorial Day) and closes towards the end of September or early October.
So yes, you can enjoy the pool without worries, whether you want to sunbathe during the day or have a drink in the evening.
Conclusion
The real advantage of this rooftop is that it is on the Lower East Side. The neighborhood is famous for its bars and restaurants frequented by many locals.
