One of my favorites rooftop in New York City: the Press Lounge

A rooftop in New York is a bar on the roof of a building. I have already mentioned several of them in NYCTT, such as the 230 Fifth Rooftop, the Refinery Rooftop or Jimmy at the James. But the Press Lounge is a little different.
It’s in the Hell’s Kitchen area, west of Times Square. It is a bit off Midtown and therefore offers a different view in comparison to other rooftops.

How is the Press Lounge?

The Press Lounge is located above the Kimpton Ink 48 Hotel. It features a bar and a roofed room as well as a terrace that offers an almost 300º view over New York.
From there you can see East Manhattan and the lights of Times Square.

On the other side, you can see the Hudson River, New Jersey with the Intrepid Museum.

The pool (which is nothing more than decoration) gives another dimension to the terrace.

How is the environment?

On the terrace and on the covered part they play a light music. The atmosphere is quite calm, ideal for conversation. In addition, there are many locals and not so many tourists.

What can you eat and drink at the Press Lounge?

They serve a variety of very original cocktails. For example, Lucida with vodka, peach liqueur, kiwi puree and prosecco. The Sans Museum has rum, beet juice, carrot and agave nectar. Surprising!

They have more traditional drinks like the Mojito, they serve local wines and beers.
You can order snacks, but if you want to dine, you will have to go to the restaurant located on the ground floor of the building.

What do I think about this rooftop?

What I do not like is that it is quite far from the subway. The nearest station is Times Square, which is about 15 minutes walking. It is not so much BUT, when one has already walked all day in the city… it may be discouraging to get to this rooftop.
However, I love the view of this rooftop. It really is wonderful. I think it’s my favorite rooftop!

Do I need to book?

No, it’s a first come-first serve bar:
– Monday-Tuesday: from 5pm to 1am,
– Wednesday-Thursday: from 5 p.m. to 2 p.m.
– Friday-Saturday: from 5pm to 3am,
– Sunday: from 5pm to midnight.
The rooftop is open every day of the year.

Know that going to the rooftop you have to show your ID (official credential of your country with your age), and consequently minors (21 years old) cannot go.

Also, you must be well dressed. I mean, it’s not necessary to suit up but the “tourist look” could not be welcome.

Where is the Press Lounge?

You’ll find this rooftop in Hell’s Kitchen, at 653 of 11th Avenue.

Conclusion

I hope my post makes you want to walk through Hell’s Kitchen to spend some time at the Press Lounge. The view is stunning, you will enjoy it.
