The city of New York is famous for its rooftops and precisely a location that opened a few years ago called “The Skylark”.
Of course, you won’t see Luke Skywalker but you will enter a very hip place offering magnificent views on Times Square and the Empire State Building you won’t see anywhere else!!!
I won’t keep you waiting so let me describe this place for you.
What can you find at the Skylark?
Located on the 30th floor of a Midtown building, the Skylark takes 2 floors.
One floor is indoors and includes a bar with couches offering an amazing view on Midtown!!!
This floor is a great option in case of rain or cold weather since it’s nice and cozy inside.
Then on the 2nd floor, you’ll find a real rooftop with breathtaking views on the Empire State Building and Times Square.
How’s the Skylark decorated?
At the entrance of the building, you’ll see a superb gold logo (seen on top of the article) for a fancy “welcome” to the rooftop :)< Then, you’ll notice a plain design with few cool touches like this portrait of Kate Moss. The real decoration is outside the bar, thanks to the breathtaking views over Manhattan, notably on the ESB and Times Square. You can’t miss it !!! 🙂
How’s the ambiance at the Skylark?
It’s a lounge ambiance with a low-key vibe with music being played not too loud.
The customers are aged between 25 to 35 years old and are rather classy.
What can we eat and drink?
A number of cocktail drinks are offered and some are quite original like the “SKYLARK” (with gin, vodka, St Germain Liquor, blue curacao, fresh lemon, brandied cherry), the “PROHIBITION JULEP” (with Templeton liquor, mint syrup, muddled mint & Jerry Thomas bitters) or for instance the “Perfect Manhattan” (with one mitcher’s-1 us rye, carpano antica, carpano antico blanco, angostura bitters & brandied cherry). They change the menu regularly, you may don’t find all these cocktails on the day of your visit.
Of course, you can always order a glass of wine or a beer.
Finger food like tapas is also available here whether you order at the bar or at the rooftop.
What are the prices of food and drinks?
The cocktails are priced at $20 which is rather expensive. However, it’s like any rooftop in New York city. Cocktails at 230 Fifth Rooftop are about the same rate.
Wine by the glass and beers prices may vary according to their origin.
The tapas plates are priced between $15 and $36.
Do you have to be 21 to enter the Skylark?
Yes at the entrance an ID is required. Unfortunately, those who are under 21 will not get in. 🙁
Where is it located?
This rooftop is located on the 30th floor at 200 W 39th Street, close to 7th avenue and 5 minutes away from Bryant Park and Times Square.

So, Is the Skylark a good tip?
It’s true to say that prices are rather high but honestly the Skylark is really a nice place. The view is amazing, you don’t want to miss it, and once there, you don’t want to leave the place and spend the rest of the night admiring New York City by night!
As for now, there aren’t many tourists so yes I strongly recommend it 🙂 🙂
