The Yotel, a hip and modern hotel with great value in New York

Are you looking for a hotel for your next trip to New York?
Yotel might be a good option for you because of its decor, attractive prices and proximity to Times Square.
After spending few days at this location, here are some of the characteristics of the Yotel you may want to know before booking.

How’s the style at the Yotel Hotel?

This hotel is really original and has its own style with pink-violet and white tones, it’s hip and design at the same time.
You’ll quickly feel comfortable in this 21^st century hotel.

You’ll notice Japanese anime characters on display, including 2 sculptures of 5 feet high (1.50M) each (created by the artist Andreas Krapf) named “Lesley” and “Shaggy” (as seen below)

The Yotel and technology:

Yotel’s designers have tried to have technology accessible everywhere.
For instance, in the lobby, computers are available to assist you with check-in just Alex BPVNY on the picture below.

At the Yotel lobby, you’ll also see a robot behind the large bay window (known as the Yobot) which allow you to store your luggage in the lockers. It’s really spectacular and you’ll surely like it, even if you’re not a kid 🙂

What amenities are offered?

The hotel is equipped with small kitchens on each floor called « Galley” and can be used by every hotel customers.
It includes:
– A Lavazza coffee machineserving hot beverages (tea, coffee, latte, espresso and hot chocolate)
– A purified water fountain
– An ice machine
– A fridge
– A microwave oven
– A beverage vending machine (soda)
The hotel has a fitness room with bikes (regular and elliptic), mattress floor and more.

You can enjoy some time at the Terrace, a beautiful rooftop.

Then, other services are available at the Yotel including :
– Free Wifi on all floors: rooms, bar, restaurant, lobby, meeting room
– 24/7 Concierge

– First cabin – King: max 3 people – 30 m2
– First ADA cabin – terrace/hot tub: max 3 people – 38 m2 + 28 m2 terrace

– VIP view suite: max 4 people – 102 m2 + 28 m2 terrace

As you can see, the rooms are not very large.
The concept at the Yotel was to create small rooms called “cabins”.
Most rooms are 16 m2, it’s true to say that everything fits conveniently. Then, after 4 days in a Premium view cabin, I can say that our luggage was a bit of an issue…
Since there’s no closet, you have to leave it in there. There’s only room by the bed for one suitcase. It’s a bit annoying when travelling with your partner, especially if the room is quite small.
Anyway, let me remind you that you are not flying to New York to spend entire days in your room!!! Once you have fallen asleep and taken a shower, go out and enjoy the streets of NY!!!! 🙂

In addition, all rooms are bright and sound proof.

The bathroom includes a sink with disposable toiletries, a nice shower, toilets and large window with a view on the Hudson River and New Jersey, a tiny storage space with 3 hangers, a hair dryer, an iron and a safe.

Each room at the Yotel offers a flat screen TV installed on a beautiful wood board.
Then, you’ll also find a cable to charge your iPod, iPhone or iPad along with some small storage space to empty your pockets, something very useful since there’s very little storage space available in rooms.

The room has a small desk where you can plug your laptop and enjoy the free Wi-Fi connection.

How’s the staff at the Yotel?

The staff at the Yotel in New York will be taking good care of you. I have nothing negative to say on this matter 😉

How’s the breakfast at the Yotel?

Every morning, you can enjoy your morning coffee, tea and muffins for free at the hotel.
Now, they do offer a complete real breakfast at an additional fee.

What’s the rate for a room at the Yotel?

The rates at the Yotel may vary according  to your travel plans whether it’s a high or low touristic season and the day you’re traveling.
You’ll find the « Premium Cabin Queen » starting around $125 (or 93€) just as you can see below.

At this rate, it’s a really good deal for a hotel in New York.
But unfortunately, most of the time the first rate is more like $150 to $189 (between 112€ and 141€), which is still reasonable I think.

What’s the best tip of this hotel?

Personally, I think you might have a chance for upgrade to higher floors to get an amazing view on the neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, the Hudson River and New Jersey.
The Yotel is 27 stories high, I was staying on the 25th floor and it’s a fact that the view as just spectacular especially on mornings as you can see.

Where is the Yotel located?

The hotel is located on 10th Avenue in the neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen , but only 2 blocks from Times Square and the 42nd Port Authority train station .
