What’s the history behind the Marie’s Crisis Cafe?
The bar was built in 1839, named after Marie Du Mont, an Austrian immigrant well known for her blonde hair, her voice and for selling alcohol during the prohibition era.
The name of the bar was inspired by the Crisis pamphlets too, written by Thomas Paine (an American Independence hero). In fact, in one of the bar’s wall his epitaph is written: “The world is my country, to do good is my religion, and all mankind are my brethren”.
From 1850 to 1890, this building was a wharehouse, then a gay bar. Nowadays, Marie’s Crisis Cafe is just a piano bar, where neighbors and actors meet to sing songs of Broadway and Disney shows.
What does Marie’s Crisis Cafe propose?
From 4pm to 8pm it is a pleasant bar, perfect to have a drink.
After 8pm, it’s a lot better; it is when the pianist gets there.
Bar’s main attraction is the pianist playing Broadway and Disney classics, while the bar customers are drinking and singing.
They sing classics songs like Mary Poppins, The Lion King, West Side Story, Mamma Mia… and many more
The vibe is really good and friendly.
I dare you not to sing with them!
Even if you don’t know the songs, you’re going to have a good time.
