The Refinery Rooftop, one of my favorite places in New York

For a night out in New York, there is nothing more impressive than going to a rooftop bar. The views from there are breathtaking!
I’ve been to different rooftops in New York, 230 Fifth, the Skylark, The Press Lounge… but the Rooftop Refinery is truly one of my favorites. It has a stunning view of the Empire State Building, and I love its decoration and atmosphere.

How is the Refinery Rooftop?

The Refinery Rooftop bar is located on top of the Refinery Hotel, an old factory converted into a luxury hotel. The Refinery blends elements of traditional architecture with bricks on the walls and modern decorations. The wood used to make the bar was taken from the water tower that was on the top of the building before the renovation works!

There are a few tables and couches. I liked the little lights and candles placed everywhere around the rooftop.
The rooftop has three spaces, one inside, a terrace and a courtyard with a glass roof. This glass roof can be removed when the weather is nice, and it’s a perfect way to enjoy the bar when it’s raining.

What is the atmosphere like at the Refinery?

As the rooftop is not very big, the atmosphere is quite calm and “cozy”. The music is lounge style, very nice.
But inside, the music it is a bit loud.
On Fridays and Saturdays there is a DJ at 10pm, the music gets even louder from than moment on.

What to drink at the Refinery?

They have all the drinks you can imagine. The prices are a little high but that is normal for a rooftop bar in New York.
A cocktail is about $ 16-18, a beer costs between $ 8-9 and a glass of wine is from $ 14 to $ 22.
I had a delicious Margarita that night. I strongly recommend it 😉

Do they have food service?

Yes. Every day they have a lunch from 11.30am to 2.30pm with various dishes and salads. For the food rates are reasonable, here is the menu.

For dinner they prepare finger food with sweet and savory snacks. You can also share dishes (see menu).

What is clientele?

The night I went, there was a bit of everything, tourists and many locals also. Seeing locals is what I like the most 😉
Please note that guests under 21 are not permitted on the rooftop after 4pm on Mondays- Saturdays. However they are welcomed for lunch service and on Sundays, accompanied by an adult.

How is the service?

I have nothing bad to say about the service, the atmosphere is very relaxed and the waiters too.

What is a good tip for the Refinery?

My cocktail was delicious. But what I liked most about the Refinery is the view of the Empire State Building.
One picture says it all!

Conclusion

The Refinery Rooftop is a perfect place to spend a pleasant evening in New York City, with a breathtaking view on the Empire State Building. It is also a good plan for those who don’t want to go to a club but want to go for drinks with friends.
The atmosphere and the view are the best part of this place.
